Hello and thank you for visiting magbase.com! My name is Dave Hulsey, the founder and developer of the U.S. Patented ornamental clip cover, the MAGBASE. The web design was created and is maintained by Scott Jeppsen.

I am an old “leatherneck” having served with the Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. Tumultuous times in our country’s history. I was with Echo Company, 2nd. Bat. 3rd. Marines, 9th Marine Amphibious Brigade. Our Ships were the USS Tripoli LPH-10, USS Paul Revere APA-248, USS Windham and USS Washoe Counties (LST’s) in the South China Sea. Most of our time was spent “in country” in beautiful Viet Nam. It goes without saying how outstanding the Navy Corpsmen were. Bravery under fire is almost an understatement for these guys, but all the Navy personnel were great and we especially appreciated the courage and sailing abilities of Ships Crew during large storms and rough seas! As our unit got off of the “float”, we were assigned combat operations (GOD Bless the USS New Jersey and her big guns) with 3rd Mar. Div.

In the development stages of MAGBASE, I had the idea of making custom pistol grips- with military emblems set in the grips. While I was brainstorming it occurred to me that the best way to customize a pistol is not on the sides (grips) but on the bottom! That is what is seen when the pistol is holstered, and what observers see when the pistol is held. The fact that clips are identifiable when removed from the pistol is an added bonus.

I focused on developing a replacement pistol magazine base for the Beretta Mod 92, as it is the current US Military issue pistol and also the issue weapon of LA County Sheriffs Dept., LAPD, and numerous other law enforcement agencies. My first production run was LA Sheriff & LAPD 9mm Beretta bases as these two departments, and their personnel have my admiration and respect. I was able to use existing high quality mini- badges from the two departments, mounting the badges into the custom base.

My real dream was to make the MAGBASE in a military version. I searched for a high quality military emblem that I could use, as I was able to do with the LA Sheriffs Star and the LA Police Shield. I was surprised that I was unable to find a high end military pin that would meet my standards! I discovered that I was back to square one, and needed to develop Armed Services pins and emblems of superior quality. After a lot of work, I was able to produce high end items and components at reasonable prices.
